Hi Families!
As you work from home, I wanted to compile everything you might need in one tab. These are websites that have either been used in our classroom or were recommended by other educators in our building.
Here is the link to our online learning platform, SeeSaw.
Reading:
Raz Kids
Storyline
Bookflix
Scholastic
We love listening to stories and discussing them afterward! You can either read one of the books sent home or use a website above to either listen to or read a story. Most of the comprehension questions we discuss involve what was happening, who was involved, and how the characters felt about each other (we try to avoid the word 'happy' and replace it with 'liked' or 'loved'). Students are always encouraged to use the book and be as specific as possible when using details to explain what they read. We also respond to our reading with writing so students could write a sentence or two about what was read and then draw a picture to go along with the story and label it. The most important thing to remind your child of is to start a sentence with a capital letter, end with a period, and use finger spaces. We have also been practicing sounding words out while spelling unfamiliar words.
Math:
CoolMathGames
ABCya
We are always working on identifying the numbers 1-120, writing those numbers, and counting forward and backward. Basic addition and subtraction (within 20) are also skills we work on. We have used the websites above to practice basic addition and subtraction. Students also love the game that practices partners to 10! We did a basic introduction to place value, shapes, and measurement prior to break so students have also practiced these skills as well. Q tips were sent home so students could practice making shapes but I would also encourage you to have your child practice measuring different objects using any item (e.g. measure a book using pieces of pasta or paperclips).
Science and Social Studies:
BrainPOPJr
PebbleGo
Mystery Doug
Our most recent project was researching outer space! We have already explored Earth and Mercury but students could look through any resources related to outer space. We also love watching Mystery Doug videos each week. They have unlocked all past videos along with the mini lessons that accompany them!
